Anthropic unveils a hardware standard for AI agents to control physical devices

Anthropic has introduced the Model Hardware Standard (MHS), a research preview of standardized drivers that allow AI agents to interface with and control various physical devices. The system provides a common data-sharing format and interface, enabling devices to communicate over a network without custom "translator" programs.

Anthropic says this could cut experimental setup times from weeks or months down to hours or minutes. The initiative was inspired by a neuroscientist's work at HHMI Janelia, and researchers hope it could eventually enable AI to run virtually any scientific experiment.
