Anthropic unveils Model Hardware Standard to bring AI agents into the physical world

Anthropic has unveiled the Model Hardware Standard (MHS), a research preview of standardized drivers that let AI agents interface with and control arbitrary hardware devices. The system is designed to help scientists avoid custom integrations by providing a common interface and data-sharing format for lab equipment such as lasers, microscopes, and cameras.

Anthropic says this could cut experimental setup time from weeks or months to hours or minutes. The effort was inspired by a neuroscientist's experiment at HHMI Janelia that coordinated diverse devices through a shared interface.
