Meta Ran Ads for AI App That Creates Deepfake Nudes of Female Politicians

Meta recently ran advertisements for Kromix, an AI image tool that creates pornographic deepfakes of women, including US politicians, despite Meta's policies against sexual content in ads. The ads, reviewed by WIRED, promoted the app as having "no restrictions" and used a lookalike of a prominent female politician in a video that transitioned to explicit content. The app, available on Apple's App Store before WIRED reached out for comment, invited paid users to upload photos for scenarios such as "bedroom rape" and "Disney love." This incident is the latest in a series of failures by Meta to keep ads for nonconsensual intimate imagery tools off its platforms.
