Meta Tests Robots for Data Center Tasks Like Cable Plugging and Server Resets

Meta is trialing robots from vendors including Watney Robotics, Kinova, and ABB to handle tasks such as plugging in cables, resetting servers, and power cycling equipment inside its data centers. The effort, described by current and former workers, is part of a push to reduce human labor as Meta’s spending on AI infrastructure grows.

One worker estimated that a robot designed to swap networking cables could replace up to 80 percent of some people’s workloads, raising concerns among staff about job security. The companies involved either declined to comment or did not respond to requests for comment.
