South Korea’s government and leading tech companies have committed $1 trillion to major projects that aim to boost global memory chip supply, build new AI data centers, and accelerate the commercial rollout of humanoid robots by 2028. The investment follows record profits for Samsung and SK Hynix driven by AI industry demand, which has strained memory chip supply and raised consumer electronics prices.
Hyundai Motor Company is also racing to mass-produce humanoid robots from its Boston Dynamics subsidiary for factory labor. President Lee Jae Myung emphasized the need to secure AI’s core elements faster than any other nation, calling semiconductors, physical AI, and data centers the triple axis for progress.
