Taiwan Ramps Up Domestic Drone Production and Exports to US Amid China Threat

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense has proposed a $6.6 billion six-year budget to purchase over 208,000 coastal attack drones, 1,400 reconnaissance drones, and 1,320 uncrewed surface vessels, all made in Taiwan. This would significantly expand the current arsenal of 5,000 U.S.-made and domestically produced drones.

In recent military exercises, Taiwanese forces used both American-made Altius-600 loitering munition drones and Taiwanese drones to strike maritime targets. Meanwhile, Taiwanese companies are forming international partnerships to sell more drones to the U.S.

military and other overseas buyers.
