Privacy advocates are urging the Federal Trade Commission to reject X's latest attempt to end ongoing audits of its data handling, warning that the platform still poses a serious risk to Americans' privacy. The FTC previously imposed an order on X after a coding error caused the company to misuse user contact information submitted for two-factor authentication in ad targeting.
Under the order, X must undergo costly independent audits, and the FTC retains authority to demand compliance documents without additional legal action. Advocates filed comments ahead of a July 2 deadline, insisting the FTC maintain close oversight.
