Using more AI to fight problematic content can actually make social media worse, because it risks removing the authentic human contributions that give platforms value. In April, moderators of Reddit’s r/AskHistorians community saw their Slack channel flood with alerts after AI automatically removed dozens of comments and posts dating back 10 years.
The incident highlights the dangers of relying primarily on automated moderation. To preserve safe and meaningful communities, platforms need more than AI alone.
