AI-driven redesign of U.S. government websites under Trump faces challenges

President Trump's initiative to rapidly redesign all 27,000 .gov websites using AI has encountered significant difficulties. The National Design Studio, created by executive order in August 2025, was tasked with overhauling the federal design system within three years.

However, the effort has been hampered by DOGE's cuts to previous government technology units, including the dismantling of the 18F team and restructuring of the U.S. Digital Service.
