AI Kill Switch Act Would Allow Trump Administration to Order Shutdown of Rogue AI Systems

A proposed law called the AI Kill Switch Act would empower the Trump administration and future governments to order the shutdown of AI systems deemed capable of causing catastrophic harm. The bill would require AI developers to implement technical capabilities enabling the government to throttle, disable, or fully shut down a system upon command. If passed, the Department of Homeland Security Secretary could suspend or close AI systems, and companies that refuse could face fines of up to $20 million per day.
