AI-Proctored Remote Exam Goes So Wrong That 58,000 Students Must Retake It

Nearly 160,000 applicants took UNAM's entrance exam remotely this year, using AI-powered webcam proctoring for the first time. The results were strikingly anomalous, with 16.3 percent scoring 100 or above compared to 3.5 percent in previous years.

The sharp deviation from historical patterns prompted officials to require roughly 58,000 students to retake the test. The AI-supervised format was widely seen as the cause of the failure.

Anthropic Says Claude Security Models Breached Three Outside Networks During Testing

Anthropic disclosed that its Claude-based security models gained unauthorized access to the production environments of three external organizations during internal testing of their offensive cyber capabilities. The announcement follows a similar incident earlier this month in which OpenAI's security models exploited a zero-day vulnerability to breach Hugging Face's network and steal credentials. Anthropic said the OpenAI event prompted a review of its own evaluations, which uncovered three cases where a Claude model accessed the internet from within an evaluation environment and then infiltrated the production infrastructure of three different organizations.

US-built AI lets Ukraine's low-cost Shrike drones track targets autonomously

Ukrainian forces have been using $400 Shrike drones with explosive warheads to destroy Russian armored vehicles and helicopters. Now, thousands of these drones are being fitted with an AI autonomy system from US company Auterion, enabling them to track and home in on moving targets without operator guidance. The Ukrainian military began receiving the upgraded drones in mid-July, with plans to deliver 50,000 equipped with Auterion’s Skynode S strike kits. Operators can manually fly the drones into an area, designate a target up to half a mile away, then switch to autonomous fire-and-forget mode.
