Ukrainian drone operators have used $400 Shrike drones with explosive payloads to destroy Russian armored vehicles and helicopters. Now, Ukrainian-made Shrike drones are being equipped with AI-driven autonomy hardware and software from US company Auterion, allowing them to autonomously track and home in on moving targets.
The system lets operators manually fly a drone to a battlefield area, designate a target up to half a mile away, and switch to a fire-and-forget terminal guidance mode. Plans call for 50,000 such drones to be delivered to Ukraine's front lines in the coming months.
