AI Upgrade Lets Ukraine’s Low-Cost Shrike Drones Autonomously Hunt Targets

Ukraine’s military has used $400 Shrike drones to destroy Russian armored vehicles and helicopters, and now thousands of these drones are being upgraded with AI from the US company Auterion. The Ukrainian firm SkyFall has begun delivering the AI-equipped drones to the front lines, with plans to send 50,000 units in the coming months. The system allows an operator to manually fly a drone into an area, designate a target up to half a mile away, and then switch it into autonomous fire-and-forget mode for terminal guidance.
