Amazon's artificial intelligence operations will be partly powered by a natural gas-burning plant in Texas that could become the largest single source of U.S. climate pollution.
Such plants, increasingly paired with data centers, emit pollutants linked to health problems like asthma, heart disease, lung cancer, and strokes. While some communities have demanded stricter environmental reviews, the Trump administration has favored fast-tracking projects, potentially skipping permitting entirely.
The move has drawn public backlash similar to criticism over Elon Musk's xAI using gas turbines for its Colossus data center.
