Amazon is helping power its AI data centers with a natural gas plant in Texas that The New York Times says could become the largest single source of U.S. climate pollution.
Gas plants are increasingly being bundled with data center projects, releasing pollutants linked to asthma, heart disease, lung cancer, and strokes. While some communities are demanding stricter environmental reviews, the Trump administration favors fast-tracking that can bypass permitting entirely.
The move follows public backlash over Elon Musk’s xAI using gas turbines for its Colossus data center, highlighting controversy around off-grid AI facilities.
