Amazon's AI operations will soon be partly powered by a natural gas plant in Texas that may become the largest single source of US climate pollution, according to The New York Times. These gas-burning plants, increasingly paired with data centers, emit pollutants that worsen climate change and contribute to health problems such as asthma, heart disease, lung cancer, and strokes.
While some communities are demanding stricter environmental reviews, the Trump administration is pushing for fast-track approvals that could bypass permitting entirely. The move follows public backlash over similar off-grid gas-powered data centers, including Elon Musk's xAI Colossus project.
