Anthropic has accused Alibaba of orchestrating the largest known attempt to illicitly extract capabilities from its Claude AI model, involving over 28.8 million exchanges via nearly 25,000 fraudulent accounts between April 22 and June 5. In a letter to U.S.
senators, Anthropic alleged that operators affiliated with Alibaba and its Qwen AI lab targeted Claude's most advanced features, including agentic reasoning and software engineering. The company called for punishment, stating the campaign violated Claude's terms of service and access restrictions imposed after the release of Anthropic's Mythos model.
