Anthropic Accuses Alibaba of Massive Campaign to Clone Its Claude AI Model

Anthropic has accused Alibaba of orchestrating the largest known attempt to illicitly extract capabilities from its Claude AI model, involving over 28.8 million exchanges through nearly 25,000 fraudulent accounts between April 22 and June 5. The company shared the allegations in a June 10 letter to U.S.

senators ahead of a hearing on AI and the American Dream, stating that the attackers targeted Claude's most valuable features, including agentic reasoning and software engineering. Anthropic says the campaign violated Claude's terms of service and access restrictions, and called for consequences against the Chinese firm.
