Anthropic Accuses Alibaba of Massive Claude Cloning Campaign, Demands Punishment

Anthropic has accused Alibaba of orchestrating the largest known attempt to clone its Claude AI model, involving more than 28.8 million exchanges through nearly 25,000 fraudulent accounts between April 22 and June 5. The attacks targeted Claude's most advanced capabilities, including agentic reasoning and software engineering.

In a letter to Senators Tim Scott and Elizabeth Warren, Anthropic presented evidence of the campaign, which it says violated Claude's terms of service and access restrictions. The company is calling for punishment as China races to match Anthropic’s leading AI technology.
