Anthropic adds invisible watermarks to all Claude-processed content

Anthropic has announced that content processed by its AI models—not only generated text—will soon carry machine-readable watermarks, starting with new models globally. The move aligns with the European Union's AI Act, which mandates watermarking for AI-generated or manipulated content, with a grace period until December 2026 for older models.

Although the EU exempts cases like minor grammar corrections, Anthropic is applying watermarks broadly to all supported processed content. The watermarks are invisible to users and include embedded markers for text, plus signed provenance metadata for other files.
