Anthropic Disables Fable and Mythos Models Following US Government Directive

Anthropic shut off access to its Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models on Friday night, just days after their launch, following a US Commerce Department directive subjecting the models to export controls. The company stated that abruptly disabling the models for all customers was the only way to ensure immediate compliance with the government order, while access to other Anthropic models remains unaffected. The administration reportedly acted on concerns about a jailbreak that bypassed safeguards designed to block prompts related to cybersecurity, chemistry, and biology, and requested a pause to harden national security systems, a process expected to take a few weeks.
