Anthropic Halts Planned Token-Based Pricing for Claude Agent SDK

Anthropic has paused a planned billing change for its Claude Agent SDK that would have significantly increased costs for heavy users, including those using third-party apps. The company announced on May 13 that SDK usage would be billed separately at API rates starting June 15, with subscribers receiving a monthly credit equal to their subscription price.

That would have replaced the current system, where SDK usage is limited by generous weekly caps tied to a user's subscription tier, often providing far more value than the equivalent API cost. The pause allows users to continue drawing from their existing subscription limits while Anthropic reevaluates the policy.
