Anthropic Halts Token-Based Billing for Claude Agent SDK

Anthropic has paused a planned billing change for its Claude Agent SDK that would have significantly raised costs for heavy users, including those accessing it through third-party apps. The change, announced last month and set to take effect June 15, would have shifted SDK usage to separate API-rate billing with a monthly credit, replacing the current system where usage is limited by generous weekly caps tied to a subscription tier. By pausing the change, Anthropic allows Agent SDK users to continue drawing from their existing subscription limits, which offer far more value than equivalent API spending for power users.
