Anthropic has paused a planned billing change for its Claude Agent SDK that would have significantly raised costs for heavy users, including those accessing the SDK through third-party applications. The company had announced on May 13 that starting June 15, SDK usage would be billed separately from standard Claude interactions, using API rates with a monthly usage credit equal to the subscription price.
Under the current system, SDK usage is covered by the subscriber's existing weekly usage caps, which often provide far more value for power users than API-based pricing. Anthropic's abrupt reversal allows users to continue drawing from their existing subscription limits without additional charges.
