Anthropic Halts Token-Based Billing for Claude Agent SDK

Anthropic paused a planned billing change for its Claude Agent SDK that would have significantly increased costs for heavy users by charging API rates instead of using existing subscription limits. The change, announced last month, was set to take effect on June 15 but was abruptly halted on Monday. Under the current system, Agent SDK usage is covered by the generous weekly caps of a user's Claude subscription tier, which often provides far more value than equivalent API spending.
