Anthropic announced that it will soon add machine-readable watermarks to content processed by its AI models, not just generated content, to comply with the European Union's AI Act. The watermarks will be invisible to users, and generated files will include digital provenance metadata where supported.
All new models offered globally will carry these marks from day one, even though the EU does not require watermarking for assistive functions like grammar correction. Anthropic is applying the watermarks broadly, going beyond the EU's minimum requirements.
