Anthropic Will Invisibly Watermark All Claude Content, Not Just AI-Generated Output

Anthropic has announced that it will soon add machine-readable watermarks to content processed by any Claude model, going beyond generated material. The move aligns with the European Union's AI Act, which requires AI providers to watermark AI-generated or manipulated content, though Anthropic is applying it globally and more broadly than the law mandates.

Text outputs will carry embedded, user-invisible watermarks, while other generated files will include digitally signed provenance metadata where supported. The company says all new models offered worldwide will include this marking from day one.
