Apple Sues OpenAI Alleging Ex-Engineer Used Software Bug to Steal Trade Secrets

Apple has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, claiming that a former engineer exploited a rare software bug to retain access to confidential Apple servers for weeks after his termination. The complaint alleges that OpenAI conspired with former Apple employees to unlawfully obtain trade secrets in order to accelerate development of AI-powered devices that could compete with the iPhone.

Apple is seeking court injunctions to prevent OpenAI from using the allegedly stolen information. The bug was uncovered during an investigation into messages between a current Apple employee and the ex-engineer, who had worked on some of Apple’s most sensitive projects.
