Baldur’s Gate 3’s Turn-Based Combat Is a Deliberate Design That Works

In Baldur’s Gate 3, combat is turn-based, giving you a built-in chance to think during fights as your characters take orderly turns. Larian Studios made this choice deliberately, since the game is a Dungeons & Dragons adaptation and tabletop play naturally involves pausing to plan moves.

The format suits the game well: enemies throw curveballs and you have many skills to strategize around. There’s no real reason to change something that works.
