ByteDance is training an AI model that could rival Anthropic’s most advanced Mythos system, as Chinese companies continue to close the gap with top US labs. According to three people familiar with the matter, the Chinese tech giant is in the early stages of pre-training a model with up to 10 trillion parameters—three times larger than Moonshot’s Kimi K3, the largest Chinese model released so far. The pre-training phase typically lasts three to six months, after which the model would be fine-tuned and released if all goes well, with the final model size determined later.
