ByteDance is training an AI model that could approach the scale of Anthropic's most advanced Mythos system, signaling that Chinese labs are continuing to close the gap with top US AI developers. According to three people familiar with the matter, the Chinese tech giant is in the early stages of pre-training a model with up to 10 trillion parameters—three times larger than Moonshot's Kimi K3, the biggest Chinese model released to date. Pre-training typically takes three to six months, after which the model would be fine-tuned and released if all goes well, with the exact final size determined later.
