Canadian lawmaker accidentally reads AI chatbot instructions during legislative speech

New Brunswick Progressive Conservative MLA Bill Oliver inadvertently read aloud what appeared to be a prompt instruction for a large language model during a floor speech last month. He first delivered a formal sentence, then followed it with the phrase “here’s a more natural, flowing version of that section,” which is typical of an LLM response offering a rewrite. The incident went largely unnoticed until video clips circulated on social media this week, drawing coverage from CBC and The Toronto Star, which criticized the apparent reliance on AI for legislative duties.
