Canadian Lawmaker Accidentally Reads AI Chatbot Instructions During Legislative Speech

A Progressive Conservative member of New Brunswick's legislative assembly, Bill Oliver, inadvertently read aloud an apparent large language model prompt during a floor speech last month. After making a formal statement, he added a line that said, "Here’s a more natural, flowing version of that section that reads like a legislative speech rather than a series of short points," revealing the AI-generated text. The incident went largely unnoticed at the time but has since spread on social media and drawn coverage from major outlets like the CBC and The Toronto Star.
