Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is out: new abilities and launch issues

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse launched on October 15, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC. Konami confirmed the release of the new 2D action-exploration game, which takes the Belmont family's vampire hunting to Paris.

Rose Belmont takes over in medieval Paris

The story follows Trevor Belmont's daughter Rose in 1499, 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. The adventure connects the city's monster-infested streets with Dracula's castle.

There is a practical reason the development partnership matters. In a July interview, Konami producer Tsutomu Taniguchi linked the choice of Evil Empire to its action-game expertise and enthusiasm for Castlevania. The studios had already collaborated on Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania. Motion Twin provided advisory support on the new game.

The whip is only part of Rose's toolkit

The official game description highlights three systems:

• The whip supports traversal as well as combat.

• Defeated bosses become Arcana cards, granting spells and special actions.

• Seven weapon categories and relics let players change their combat setup.

This gives the release a clearer identity than a simple return of familiar monsters: boss victories also expand the tools available to Rose.

Konami's earlier gameplay introduction also confirmed secret rooms, hidden items and breakable walls containing restorative food. Exploration therefore remains central to the announced design.

Platforms, editions and language options

Xbox Wire confirms Xbox Play Anywhere support, allowing the relevant digital purchase to be played on Xbox and Windows PC. That benefit should not be confused with ownership of the separate Steam version.

The edition announcement distinguishes the base game from Midnight Edition. The latter adds a digital sound and art gallery, Trevor- and Sypha-inspired costumes, and the Family's Grace relic. The Alucard costume was offered as a preorder or early-purchase bonus; availability should not be assumed for every purchase after launch.

The product page lists English and Japanese voices and Russian text, but not Ukrainian text. It specifies 60 fps, with 30 fps for Nintendo Switch. Those are publisher specifications, not independent measurements of frame-rate stability.

Konami has acknowledged launch issues

The official notice dated October 14 identifies a PC startup problem when V-Sync is disabled and frame rate is unlimited. It also lists partially off-screen interface elements on Steam Deck and a title-screen issue with certain system languages, mainly Arabic. Konami says a corrective patch is being prepared.
