Claude’s Invisible Watermark: A New Mark on All AI-Processed Content

Anthropic announced it will soon add machine-readable watermarks to content processed by its Claude models, not just text they generate. The move aligns with the European Union’s AI Act, which requires providers to watermark AI-generated or manipulated media, and will apply globally to all new models from day one.

Text outputs will carry invisible embedded watermarks, while supported generated files will include digital provenance metadata. Anthropic says it is applying the marks broadly—including to assistive edits such as grammar corrections—going beyond the EU’s minimum requirements.
