Claude's Invisible Watermark: Anthropic to Tag AI-Processed Content

Anthropic announced it will begin watermarking content processed by its AI models, not just content the models generate, using machine-readable watermarks to comply with the European Union's AI Act. The law requires AI providers to mark AI-generated or manipulated audio, image, text, and video outputs, applying to models released after August 2 with a grace period for older models until December 2026.

Anthropic says all new models offered globally will mark AI-generated content from day one, embedding invisible watermarks in text and using digitally signed provenance metadata for other file types. The company is also going beyond EU requirements by watermarking all supported processed content, including cases such as grammar correction.
