Status checked on October 22, 2026. This is a guide to Electronic Arts’ major current franchises, not an exhaustive catalogue of every game in its history. Each entry separates an official decision from a press report or the absence of a new announcement. Dates identify the evidence behind the status.

The BioWare decision should not turn EA’s entire portfolio into a cancellation list. Early development of the next Mass Effect is ending and the studio is closing. Every other project needs its own check.

What the labels mean

“In development” does not mean a release is close. “Paused” leaves the possibility of a return; “cancelled” means a particular project has ended. Stopping updates for a released game is different from switching off its servers. “No new announcement found” describes the limits of this review, not a secret decision by the publisher.

Star Wars and Marvel: Jedi, Battlefront and Iron Man

The next Star Wars Jedi, informally Jedi 3: development confirmed on October 21.

Keep it separate from Respawn’s other projects: in April 2025 Respawn discussed the next Jedi alongside the closure of two incubation efforts. Here, “3” identifies the next instalment, not a verified final subtitle.

Joint Respawn/DICE project: confirmed, officially unnamed.

Battlefront III: a press report. On October 21, Insider Gaming, citing Bloomberg, linked the collaboration to Battlefront. A title containing III is not an EA announcement. Platforms and a release window should not be filled in with assumptions.

Marvel’s Iron Man: confirmed upcoming project.

Motive’s historical announcement on September 20, 2022 described a single-player, third-person adventure with an original Tony Stark story. That establishes the concept, not a release date.

Black Panther / Cliffhanger Games: cancelled; studio closed. On May 28, 2025, PC Gamer reported that EA had confirmed IGN’s report.

Star Wars Zero Company: already released. Bit Reactor’s August 27, 2026 message marked the tactical game’s launch. It no longer belongs on a list of upcoming releases.

Respawn’s early Star Wars FPS: discontinued. EA announced the decision on February 28, 2024. Its official statement did not identify it as a Mandalorian game.

Shooters: live support and undated plans

Battlefield 6 / REDSEC: actively supported. The October 1, 2026 plan includes content into 2027. That is a more concrete reference point than unofficial predictions for the next instalment.

Future Battlefield games: planned; no date announced.

Apex Legends: active. The October 20 ranked roadmap covers season 31 in November and season 32 in early 2027.

Titanfall 3: no verified announcement found. Reports of cancelled Respawn incubation projects are not the same as cancellation of an officially announced third Titanfall. Names supplied by investigative reporting require attribution.

The Sims, skate. and new sports directions

The Sims 4: active. Its official October community programme, published on October 13, 2026, demonstrates ongoing activity.

Project Evergreen: prioritized. Project Lotus: paused.

Project Rene: handle the names carefully. In January 2026, EA described Rene as a social, mobile-first project rather than a successor to The Sims 4. We found no verified basis for automatically equating Rene with Lotus, or Evergreen with “The Sims 5.”

skate.: operating as a live service. Its official fifth-season article, published on August 25, 2026, describes seasonal content starting September 8.

Fight Night: boxing returns, pre-production. Project Gridiron: social open-world American football, in development.

These labels do not yet justify counting future sales or promising players a particular release season. The practical distinction is between a game someone can start today and a concept whose delivery a team still needs to demonstrate.

Sports and racing: what is already available

EA SPORTS FC 27: released September 25, 2026.

Madden NFL 27: released August 13, 2026.

College Football 27: released July 9, 2026.

UFC 6: released June 19, 2026.

NHL 27: available. Its official page was checked on October 22, 2026.

F1: a new game is planned for 2027. The November 18, 2025 plan assigns the 2026 season to an expansion for F1 25. Skipping a standalone annual release does not mean the series has closed.

Need for Speed Unbound: updates ended. The February 3, 2025 statement explains the team’s move to Battlefield. This review did not establish a new mainline instalment.

Need for Speed No Limits: the mobile branch is active. Its official Convergence update is dated September 2, 2026. Unbound’s status should not be extended to the whole franchise.

EA SPORTS WRC: future development paused. The April 30, 2025 announcement ends the new-content cycle; the released game remains available. It is not a service-shutdown notice.

Older franchises, EA Originals and mobile games

Dead Space: no new mainline game confirmed. The official October 20, 2026 announcement concerns the Convergence crossover in Battlefield. It does not announce Dead Space 4 or a remake of the second game.

Dragon Age: no new successor confirmed in this review. The studio news should not be used to invent a cancellation of “Dragon Age 5.”

Mirror’s Edge, Burnout, a new PC SimCity: the materials checked contain no newly confirmed mainline release. That label means uncertainty, not an announced end to the franchises.

Command & Conquer: the official February 27, 2025 material concerns code and modding for existing games. It does not announce a major new instalment.

It Takes Two: a new release of an existing game. Its Switch 2 version arrived on October 15, 2026, as confirmed by Nintendo Store. This is a rerelease, not a sequel announcement.

Split Fiction: the announced Hazelight/EA Originals partnership does not confirm Split Fiction 2 or the publisher of whatever the studio makes next.

Plants vs. Zombies 3: Evolved: early access in selected territories. The official post named Ireland and the Philippines. A promise of wider availability is not treated here as a verified worldwide launch.

SimCity BuildIt: active. Its official page shows update 83 dated October 6, 2026. Mobile support does not confirm a new PC SimCity.

Closed services are a separate category

The following games had already reached players. These cases should not be mixed with development projects cancelled before release.

Anthem: servers shut down on January 12, 2026.

The Sims Mobile: service ended on January 20, 2026.

Real Racing 3: EA’s official register lists March 20, 2026.

Rocket Arena: servers closed back on March 21, 2024.

Analysis: what this portfolio tells us

For fiscal 2026, ending March 31, EA reported $7.531 billion in revenue. Live services and other accounted for $5.383 billion, approximately 71.5% by our calculation. The category is broader than microtransactions alone. Net bookings should not be substituted for revenue.

On August 4, 2026, EA announced completion of its acquisition by the PIF, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners consortium. The sequence of events does not, by itself, establish who initiated any particular closure.

Our editorial assessment: players need more than a large number of logos in a presentation. The variety of experiences behind them matters. A regular sports release, a long story-driven adventure and a smaller experimental game answer different needs. Replacing one type with another will not necessarily satisfy the same audience.

Resource concentration cuts both ways. Fewer simultaneous launches may make staffing and ongoing support more manageable. Dependence on a narrower set of brands also raises the cost of each brand’s failure. This is an assessment of risk, not a sales forecast or evidence of management’s private motives.

The next steps should therefore be judged through observable results: a gameplay demonstration, named platforms, a testing window, an actual release and delivery of the roadmap. A rumour can prove correct, but it is not a publisher’s promise before an announcement. A pause does not become a cancellation simply because it lasts longer than fans hoped.
