The European Commission has introduced new measures under the Digital Markets Act (DMA) requiring Google to enhance interoperability and competition on its Android platform and in search. Specifically, Google must grant competing AI platforms equal access to system-level features on Android, ending the preferential treatment currently given to its own Gemini assistant.
Additionally, the company will be required to share certain search data with rivals to foster fair competition. Google has criticized the move as a threat to privacy and security, but as a designated DMA gatekeeper, it is legally bound to comply.
