EU Warns Meta: Disable Addictive Features or Face Heavy Fines

The European Commission has preliminarily found that Meta's use of autoplay, infinite scroll, and highly personalized content recommendations on Facebook and Instagram are addictive. The EU stated that Meta failed to adequately assess the risks these features pose to users' physical and mental wellbeing, including minors and vulnerable adults.

According to the Commission, these design elements encourage compulsive scrolling and unhealthy habits. Consequently, the EU is pressuring Meta to make significant changes or risk substantial fines.
