EU Warns Meta: Disable Autoplay and Infinite Scroll or Face Heavy Fines

The European Commission has issued a preliminary finding that Meta failed to properly assess the risks of addictive design features on Facebook and Instagram, including autoplay, infinite scroll, and highly personalized content recommendations. These features, the EU says, encourage compulsive scrolling and can harm the physical and mental wellbeing of users, particularly minors and vulnerable adults. Meta now faces the threat of massive fines if it does not disable these features and address the concerns.
