Flaw Discovered by Anthropic’s Mythos Model Forces Withdrawal of Quantum-Resistant Algorithm Candidate

A quantum-resistant cryptography algorithm called HAWK, which was being considered as a U.S. standard, has been withdrawn after Anthropic’s Mythos security model identified a flaw that rendered it broken.

HAWK is a digital signature scheme designed to withstand future quantum computer attacks, and it had passed two rounds of NIST testing for post-quantum cryptographic algorithms. The flaw was uncovered during a third round of testing specifically aimed at finding such weaknesses.

Following the announcement, HAWK’s developer confirmed its withdrawal from consideration.
