Galaxy Express 999 Returns to the Big Screen After Nearly 50 Years

A new theatrical Galaxy Express 999 anime film has been announced, marking the beloved space epic's return after nearly half a century. The reveal came on July 25 via an official social media post from the account of creator Leiji Matsumoto. Toei Animation, the studio behind the original 1978 project, will produce the new film, with director Rintaro—who helmed the acclaimed 1979 Galaxy Express 999 movie—providing the story concept.
