Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash: how to judge the new video generator beyond the launch claims

What Google announced

The main Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash announcement appeared on November 5, 2026; Google Cloud’s separate general-availability post is dated November 6. Google describes clips of up to 15 seconds and iterative editing through conversation. This is a product-launch report, not an independent hands-on review.

Google Cloud lists 720p generation at $0.07 per second. Audio references require allowlisting. The model card describes video-with-audio output and says changes to people’s speech remain restricted. A model’s capability list therefore should not be read as a promise that every account offers the same controls.

Budget for a usable take

At the quoted rate, a single 15-second output works out at $1.05: that is the arithmetic of 15 × $0.07, not the final bill for a finished project. Five full attempts charged at the same rate would total $5.25. Any additional operations and their prices need checking separately before a job starts.

A small editorial team should track a more useful measure: how much money and time it spends producing one clip fit to show readers. Log the attempts, rejection reasons and manual correction time. An attractive example can hide a disappointing batch, while an inexpensive request does not necessarily mean an inexpensive production process.

Start with a fixed test budget and one clearly defined scene. Avoid changing the style, duration, subject and camera movement at once, because that makes it difficult to identify which adjustment helped. Keep the original brief alongside the output so tomorrow’s assessment compares the same requirements rather than remembered impressions.

A practical test for a gaming publication

We would test the tool using an invented scene with simple geometric objects made by the editorial team. A cube could travel past three pillars without changing colour or size. This needs no third-party characters and makes disappearing or changing objects easy to spot. It is a proposed evaluation method, not a description of an Omni test we have already performed.

A second pass should change only the lighting. Compare the beginning, middle and end of both clips: has an object vanished, has the background moved, or has the route changed? Watch at normal speed as well. A collection of good still frames cannot tell you whether the movement is convincing.

A synthetic clip accompanying a gaming story needs a clear label. It must not be presented as gameplay, a recording of an actual patch or evidence that a mechanic works. When an article explains a particular game, a recording made in that game will usually meet readers’ expectations better than a visualisation that merely resembles its style.

Check access and rights before uploading

Open the intended product and confirm that this exact model is available under your plan and workspace. A public announcement is no substitute for checking a specific account. Read the applicable usage and data-handling terms before transferring files; for a team account, coordinate that decision with its owner.

Check the rights to every reference image and obtain consent from people whose faces or voices you intend to use. Neutral, self-created material without personal information is enough for an initial test. If the output is used on a website, retain a record of its origin and do not remove existing provenance labels.

Is it worth trying?

Evaluate Omni 1.2 Flash against a defined editorial need, such as a short illustration, a scene sketch or supporting animation. Our conclusion is deliberately limited: the launch merits a controlled trial, but quality, speed and savings for vidgetc still need measuring. A repeatable set of usable clips with a transparent cost would be more persuasive than one spectacular promotional example.
