General Motors Installs 50 Robots at Flagship EV Plant While 1,300 Workers Remain on Layoff

General Motors has installed about 50 robot arms at its Factory Zero electric vehicle plant in Detroit, even as 1,300 workers remain on what was supposed to be a temporary layoff since March. The robots, made by Japanese company FANUC, are intended to assist with attaching components on the assembly line. United Auto Workers leaders have reacted angrily, noting that more than 1,000 union members are still laid off indefinitely and that GM could bring them back instead of deploying the robots.
