GM Adds 50 Robots at Detroit EV Plant While 1,300 Workers Remain Idle

General Motors has installed about 50 robot arms made by FANUC at its Factory Zero electric vehicle plant in Detroit, Michigan, to assist with attaching components on the assembly line. The move has angered United Auto Workers (UAW) leaders, as more than 1,300 workers remain on indefinite layoff after what was supposed to be a temporary furlough in March. James Cotton, president of UAW Local 22, said the company could bring some of those workers back instead of deploying the new robots.
