GM Installs 50 Robots at Detroit EV Plant While 1,300 Workers Remain Laid Off

General Motors has installed approximately 50 FANUC robot arms at its Factory Zero electric vehicle plant in Detroit, Michigan, to assist with attaching components during assembly. The move has drawn sharp criticism from the United Auto Workers union, as 1,300 workers have been out of work since March temporary layoffs that have now become indefinite. James Cotton, president of UAW Local 22, stated that over 1,000 union members are still laid off and argued the company could recall them instead of deploying the new robots.
