Google has announced that it will begin shutting down Google Assistant on Android devices starting September 4, with the transition to Gemini potentially taking several weeks to complete. The move follows an earlier plan to retire Assistant in late 2025, which was delayed while Google improved Gemini.
Users who have not yet switched will be forced to move to Gemini, while those already using Gemini will see no changes. The shutdown also affects connected devices such as smartwatches, headphones, and cars with Android Auto, though most smart home devices have already migrated.
