Google Data Contradicts AI Hype: Workers Are Not Automating Themselves Away

A new Google Research study analyzed 15 million anonymized AI interactions across Gemini platforms and found little evidence to support claims that AI is about to cause mass automation of white-collar jobs. The researchers used occupational databases to classify work-related prompts, discovering that AI use spans many occupations but remains shallow and mostly collaborative. End-to-end task automation was rare, suggesting that AI is currently augmenting work rather than replacing it.
