Google DeepMind has launched Nano Banana 2 Lite, a new image generation model that prioritizes speed and cost efficiency while maintaining competitive quality. Officially named Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite Image, the model is available across Google's ecosystem and is designed for rapid prototyping and idea exploration.
Although user ratings approach those of the non-Lite version, the model struggles with small text, infographics, and consistent character rendering. It offers the best balance of quality and speed among Google's current image models.
