Google briefly enabled users to create AI-modified satellite images through Google Earth using its Nano Banana 2 AI model, but quickly pulled the feature after examples highlighted misinformation risks. The tool allowed anyone to generate altered versions of real locations, which Google initially promoted as a first-of-its-kind capability. Product manager Bryan Horowitz announced the feature in a July 30 blog post, but Google reversed course amid concerns.
